Pastor Stephen Weaver
INTERIM PASTOR
(704) 629-4158
_______________________________________
Stephen Weaver is currently serving as the Interim Pastor for the church. Pastor Weaver came to First Baptist from Parkwood Baptist in Rocky Mount, NC. He and wife Karen have family in the Gaston County area. Pastor Weaver is a graduate of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX and Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Stephen & Karen have one child, Brian. We welcome Pastor Weaver to the First Baptist family.
Pastor Weaver’s philosophy is three-fold.
No. 1 “Preach the Word” Paul told Timothy to stick to the Bible. That has been my guiding philosophy from day one. Only the word of God can feed our faith, build up the believer and reach the lost. All other things are secondary to the ministry of the word for the pastor.
No. 2 “Lead in Love“ The Bible says “Love the Lord your God…and love your neighbor as yourself.” If we don’t love God and love people, we have failed. Our love for God is primary. And our love for people follows that. Our love for people ought to be obvious in the church and cause us to reach those outside the church.
No. 3 “Win the Lost“ Souls being saved is the fire of the church. Without evangelism, the church cools off, gets lukewarm and becomes a social club. We must keep evangelism as a priority in the church.
Ministry of the Church: I believe the ministry of the church encompasses three things:
No. 1 – Exalt the Savior – Jesus said, “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men to myself”. The job of the church is to lift up Jesus through worship, preaching, teaching and ministry.
No. 2 – Evangelize the Sinner - Our objective is no different from Jesus’. He said, “the son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost” (Luke 19:10) Jesus came to die for souls; we are to live for souls. Once they’ve been reached, we build them up in the faith so that they can reach others also.
No. 3 - Equip the Saints – The Bible says that every member is a minister. Pastors must “equip the saints for the work of the ministry”. (Ephesians 4:12) When every member of the church is ministering many lives can be touched. The church is the Body of Christ and each part of the body is important.
When the church focuses on these three objectives it can grow and develop and be all that God intended!
